The post-doctoral research project Musas is based on the hypothesis that authorial singing works as a tool for empowering female artists and for fostering identification with the popular cultures of their origins. It seeks to understand the creative processes of female artists – “muses” – from popular music in the Northeast and how these relate to their experiences as women in a patriarchal and sexist society and professional field, as well as to the popular culture of their regions of origin. To this end, it is based on filmed performance interviews with five northeastern female instrumentalists of national prominence (Josyara-BA, Juliana Linhares-RN, Cátia de França-PB, Socorro Lira-PB and Alessandra Leão-PE), musical analysis of their albums, documentary analysis of interviews, reports and social media of the five artists, and bibliographical research on the themes of Creative Processes in Popular Music and Body, Gender and Music.
